After Action: Operation Truffle Hunt

UNTIL After Action Report 0011701-20190606-005
OSR Field Agent Sgt Katrina Mirinova

Metas Involved:
Designation: Merx - H11180115262 - Known abilities: Technological Gear, Computer and Electronic Expertise, Telekinesis & Telepathy

Designation: Plasma Bolt - H11180115255 - Known abilities: Strength, Electrical Control and Projection. High resistance to damage.

To avoid detection by either reporters or members of Armitage Lundy’s Freedom Movement, the team flew via VTOL twenty miles above the Yaak Mountain site and either few or jumped, aiming to land at the suspected entrance to the facility. A GPS glitch placed Agent Mirinova along the southern face of Mount Yaak, about a thousand yards from the designated landing site. Had the GPS error been in a southern rather than northern direction, she would have landed at the southern end of the Lundy Gun Range and Home School.

Plasma bolt used his ability to see high energy sources and found the entrance to the facility on the southern face of Mount Yaak. Merx was able to circumvent the locking mechanism. While the entrance to maintained its ability to camouflage itself with the mountain, the paint inside the door was burned away the hallway beyond difficult to navigate from all the damage, supporting the conclusion that whatever explosion had occurred at the Yaak Mountain Facility had been an accident.

The team was immediately challenged by a far off voice -- who identified themselves as Sheriff Jacob Colton and Deputy William McCallister, both of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. They were at the edge of a cavern that was almost a kilometer across, made by what seems to be a massive explosion.

By their account,  the Sheriff and Deputy gained entrance to the facility because Armitage Lundy had let them in, explaining that Lundy was aware of the comings and goings of personnel to this facility, and had managed to acquire the entrance code.

Merx found a hallway with an operating computer interface, and connected to it to download whatever information might remain in the facility’s few working systems. When she engaged with the interface, she discovered the facility had an active self-destruct sequence, whith fifteen seconds remaining.  Merx was able to stall but not disable the self destruct through a serious of logic bombs, but the sequence was quick to adapt, and Merx had to continually update her logic streams. She was able to call out to the rest of the team and advised immediate evacuation.

Seconds after Merx’s warning, the hikers, who Agent Mirinova was preparing to assist, attacked with advanced weaponry, and activated what was left of the hardened facility defenses -- six heavy grade V-17 turrets, set into hardpoints that had been far away from the blast to survive. This was the first indication that the facility had been run by VIPER.

Plasma Bolt was able to protect the Sheriff and Deputy from the turret fire, but this limited his ability to respond to the turrets. Agent Mirinova, with the assistance of the Sheriff and Deputy, were able to keep the VIPER agents, who had been posing as hikers, pinned down and unable to leave.

Trapped in a stalemate with the completion of the auto-destruct only a matter of time, the three launched a plan where Merx, belayed her logic bombs, established a telepathic connection to Agent Mirinova, and put a telekinetic shield around the Sheriff and Deputy.

This allowed Plasma Bolt, now free from protecting the Sheriff and Deputy, to deliberately overload, releasing a massive electrical and EMP discharge. This destroyed the remaining turrets, stunned the VIPER agents, destroyed Merx’s shielding, and shut down Agent Mirinova’s armor. The release of energy drained Plasma Bolt, who returned to human form.

Merx was able to re-establish a stalemate with the self-destruct sequence with five seconds to spare. Agent Mirinova to help Merx disable the self-destruct and recover a data block from the self-destruct system.

While weakened from his overload, Plasma Bolt did not seem to sustain lasting injuries from the turrets, and Merx was unharmed. The agents, presumed to be VIPER had to be cut out of their armor, but their injuries are non-life threatening. Sheriff Colton and Deputy McCallister sustained minor burns and scrapes. Agent Mirinova sustained multiple contusions from the VIPER blasters, and minor electrical burns from Plasma Bolt’s overload.

Plasma Bolt, Merx and Agent Mirinova are back in Millenium City. The data block is being analyzed by UNTIL at the Millenium City facility. The hikers, presumably VIPER agents, are being detained at the PRIMUS station in Butte, Montana. PRIMUS has taken control of the Butte facility, with the Lundy Shooting Range and Home School shut down with attendees returning to the Lundy compound.
